Pansies

Psalm 119:28 – My soul melteth for heaviness; strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

A few weeks back I picked up a bunch of pansies. Some were the old originals, yellows and whites with beautiful deep purples and blues, dainty yellow ones, and dark magenta ones. There were beautiful new ones also, a soft but brilliant orange; delicate cream colours with a wisp of colour in the middle almost as if a tiny paint brush had made one little stroke outwards from the stem.

I took them home and laid them carefully in my flower box to plant later. Things didn't quite work out as I'd planned, and several days passed. When I got home late one day which had been extremely hot, my poor pansies were completely wilted; dried right up from every bit of moisture being sucked out of them. They looked beyond being revived.

Watering did wonders; the next morning they were alive, looking more beautiful than before. Their stems were strengthened, their leaves and flowers flourished.

We're like the pansies, we are. If we go about our lives without being nourished or "watered" by the Spirit, we have a certain "lifelessness". Our worries weigh us down and our souls are heavy. We are however, strengthened, enriched, and renewed when we see God's love around us, and listen to His word.

Prayer: We thank you Lord, for your love and your strength. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
