Putting On Christ

Tuesday, August 25, 1998

Romans 13:14 – Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

I remember as a child hearing a story about a famous actor who was invited to play the part of Jesus Christ. As was the actor's custom he studied the 'character' in order to be able to 'feel' the part.

As he prepared, his whole life changed. The more he studied the character of the Christ, the more he found himself looking at life through different eyes, hearing with different ears, tasting all of life differently. He said afterward, "It made me a new person altogether."

We aren't called to be actors but we are called to be imitators of Christ. We are not asked to play Christ but we are asked to put on Christ. And we are promised that we will never be the same again. Starting from the inside out we will be made new.

Prayer: Lover of our soul, the intimacy of your touch continues to transform us and make us new as we seek to become more like Jesus in our living and loving. Praise be to your wonderful name. Amen.
