Christ Event Horizon

John 10:29 – My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all: and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.

As a child I had always been fascinated with space and I still carry that love with me. I was lucky enough to do some contract work for NASA. Through this work I was fortunate to work with a group of scientists. Although the work they were doing was beyond me, it was fun being involved in the capacity that I was. One of the most interesting things to me is the black hole. Within that black hole there is believed to be a boundary which is called the event horizon. This is basically the point of no return if one were to pass through it. Here the gravity is so great that not even light can escape its grip. So if one passes the event horizon there is no getting back out.

There is a similar event horizon in our Christian life. When one receives the baptism of the Holy Spirit into the family of God, there is no turning back, no leaving once one is in. The force that holds us there is the pure love of God. Once we experience that love we do not wish to pass the event horizon. In today's text, Jesus is saying that no one can take us away from him. His love draws me closer and closer to him every day. I see the world with new eyes because of his love. His love motivates me and guides me.

Prayer: Lord, those who belong to you can never be snatched from your great loving grip. We thank you for taking us into that grip and never letting go. Thank you for loving us when we were unlovable. We are forever in your debt. We can only give our thanks to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
