Enjoying Some Ill Health

James 1:2-5 – Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I just came back from the Holy Land. But I got something there that I was not counting on. After we left the Sea of Galilee and entered the Kingdom of Jordan, I came down with a case of flu that I thought was going to do me in. I was deathly ill, to the point that it was thought that I might have to be left behind, with arrangements to pick up the tour group at a later date. Through the prayers of many and faith in my Lord, I was spared this dilemma. The morning came on which we were to leave and I was given the strength to travel. Thanks be to God.

This ill health has given me some time to reflect back on my pilgrimage. Not all was perfect but that is part of life. Now I can appreciate the land that the Lord has provided for me to live in at this present time. Again I give my thanks to God. So as I am recovering, I have time to "enjoy some ill health." You might think that sounds strange. Not so, for I can't forge ahead; I have to stop. We all need time to stop, to focus on the promises of God, and to give thanks to Him for all He has provided. Take time; don't wait to be stopped.

Prayer: God, please teach us to take time out for You each day. Don't let us wait till we can't go any further on our own. Make us obedient to You. Thank you for all the blessings You have provided. Let us be aware of Your presence in good times and in bad. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
