"Do" Versus "Done"

Isaiah 40:31 – But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (KJV)

I went to watch the two teams in competition for the Club Pairs Championship in the lawn bowling league. The one team started off playing a very steady game and didn't let the other team on the scoreboard till after the fifth end. Once the opposition got rolling they slowly started to creep up. They were coming down to the last end and the winning team almost lost, though they were leading by six points. This is a lesson in staying focused on what we are doing and never letting down, even when we think we have it made.

It is the same in all team sports and in life itself. I would like to tell you about something else that happened. One of the fans on the sideline had held up a sign during the match. It read, "John 3:16". Later he was asked what it meant. "Oh, I don't know. They hold it up at all the sports events." This led me to think of so many good people who don't have a clue about their salvation nor do they care. This drew me to thinking of how to spread the gospel message. I thought about D-O and D-O-N-E. I read about it a while back and I thought I would share it with you. This is not about a game; it is about life, and the most important thing in life. The D-O represents the people who believe they are "religious." They D-O go to church sometimes, they D-O give money to the church, they D-O good works, they D-O give to charities and they generally are good people. That is all they believe they have to D-O in order to get to heaven. Now I would like you to listen to the other side, the D-O-N-E. They are Christians and they are different, in that they have a certainty in life. They know it has all been D-O-N-E for them. Jesus has D-O-N-E it. He died upon the cross for their sins and once they have accepted and invited Jesus into their lives, they received the assurance of eternal life. A Christian has to stay focused at all times and stay alert to those who are seeking to join the Jesus team. If you are a D-O person don't wait too long to join the D-O-N-E team. For it is done through Christ who lives in us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, be with each one of us. Help us all to strive to be Christians and to know the difference. Amen.
