Christmas Teddy Bears

John 15:26 – The Helper will come — the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God and who comes from the Father. I will send him to you from the Father, and he will speak about me. (GNB)

Every year at Christmas, retail stores stock up with teddy bears. These bears come in various types, shapes, sizes, and colours. Some have a wardrobe while others are naked. Adults often purchase teddy bears at Christmas as gifts. These new friends become companions to children. Teddy bears are special because they bring joy and comfort. They are present with children in times of sadness, fear, grief, and joy. Many children keep a special teddy bear until its fur is completely worn off. Children also like to have imaginary conversations with their teddy bears.

The Holy Spirit has much in common with a teddy bear. The Holy Spirit brings joy and comfort. He is present in times of sadness, fear, grief, and joy. If we desire, the Holy Spirit is our companion throughout life. Teddy bears cannot speak to us, but the Holy Spirit can. If we listen to the Holy Spirit we will hear what is being said to us. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God at Christmas and all year round.

Prayer: Loving God, we thank you for the Holy Spirit. We thank you for the gifts of comfort, joy, and insight available to us in the Holy Spirit. May we all desire the Holy Spirit's presence in our daily lives. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
