The Majesty Of God

Monday, September 2, 2002

I was with a tour group riding the Polar Bear Express from Moosonee to Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. Night had fallen as the train moved through the darkness of the Arctic watershed. A full moon was visible over the outline of the treetops. Many of us, who spend our time after dark inside four walls, found this to be an awesome experience. We were spellbound by the moon's beauty.

One man commented, "Just think, this same moon is visible in my yard in Georgia. Isn't God's creation magnificent?"

Psalm 8:3-4 – When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him? (NIV)

Our creator does care for us. He made us a little lower than the angels, crowned us with glory and honour, and gave us dominion over His creation, even allowing man to walk on the face of the very moon we were viewing.

The psalmist knew that human beings could not help but be humble if they saw themselves in the light of the glory and majesty of God.

Psalm 8:1 – O Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (NIV)

Prayer: Thank you, sovereign Lord, for all Your creations, including man. May we take care of Your creations and not, in our greed, destroy and abuse them. Amen.
