Family Reunion

Mark 9:1 – And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power." (NIV)

1 Thessalonians 4:17 – After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. (NIV)

When our daughter was around three years of age, we went to the annual family reunion. I am sure that, to her, all were strangers, and she was a little shy of all the attention she was receiving, for we had not all met together since the previous year.

As we gathered, the older ones reminisced over years past, and the younger ones made new acquaintances. The children had their pictures taken together, many of which I still have. The day was filled with fellowship, renewing our family ties, enjoying times past and present, and talking about the future generations.

As I remember those reunions, which sadly came to an end, I thought of the reunion that will one day take place with our Father in heaven, the day talked about in our scripture, when none will feel like strangers. Some will be chosen for that reunion, a day set aside when Christ will come for His church. This reunion — sometimes referred to as the rapture of Christ's church — is not often talked about in the church, but it is there in God's Word, and it will take place.

What a glorious day it will be — a family reunion we don't want to miss — a day that will never come to an end! Some will be left behind, so make sure you spread the word. Be strong in faith in God, and let nothing or no-one move you away from His Word.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we come to You this day, giving thanks for our lives here on this earth, torn by war, and in disarray. We know not what the future holds, but we are assured that You are in control. Strengthen us, uphold us, and prepare us for the days that lie ahead. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
