Sea On Fire

Psalm 104:25 – There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number — living things both large and small. (NIV)

Every day, I used to have the pleasure of driving nine miles along the coast road between Maybole and Dunure, in the west of Scotland. The scenery was outstanding — a mixture of patchwork fields, rolling hills, and always the grand panorama of the sea. I can remember summer nights when the sea was like glass and a golden sun behind it, setting the whole view ablaze. It looked as though the sea was on fire, especially when the golden hues transformed into scarlet reds and deep purples. Each time I experienced this spectacle, I was overwhelmed with a sense of beauty, awe, and majesty that has never left my heart, mind, and soul.

John Calvin calls such moments an "attestation of God's wisdom". In other words, the tapestry that God creates in the beautiful things that we see, cleverly attracts us to Him, and we acknowledge His intricate handiwork by worshipping Him in our hearts.

Psalm 104:1 – Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendour and majesty. (NIV)

Wherever we go today, let us look all around and see the great things God has done!

Prayer: Almighty Creator, we thank You for all things bright and beautiful that we see and experience each day. Captivate our hearts with Your creation, and let our minds overflow with the majesty that is Yours in the making. In Jesus' name. Amen.
