Our Needs

Philippians 4:19 – You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. (MSG)

Years ago, when our children were younger, we were very hard up. My husband was pastoring a church as well as working night shift in order to keep us fed and clothed. We wore second-hand clothes; I made bread, cakes, cookies; we grew a huge garden and froze and canned all the produce from it. We ate ground meat, sausages, and hot dogs for meat. We drank powdered milk. We were definitely on a budget. Even though we spent our money wisely, often we would have no flour to make the bread or nothing in the cupboards for supper except rolled oats to make porridge.

God was so faithful, though. I can't count the number of times I went to the door and found a bag of flour or a bag of groceries sitting on our step. One time, a friend gave me a couple of brand new dresses that she thought would suit me, and they did! They fit perfectly too! We would go to garage sales and find just what we needed for clothing. God definitely supplied all of our needs. It was a neat learning time for us.

Let's ever keep in mind that God does supply our needs — our food, our clothing, our homes, our cars, our jobs. He supplies our spiritual and emotional needs as well. Great is the Lord!

Prayer: Thank You that You do take care of everything we need. You are so generous, God. Amen.
