Freedom

Listen to this devotional:

Galatians 5:1 – Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. (MSG)

Years ago, we had a budgie bird in our home. It was so tame. When out of its cage, it would follow us and sit on our shoulders. It would even land on the arm of our glasses and view the room from its lofty perch.

One day for some reason, the screen was out of the window and BJ flew away to what he thought was freedom. It was a windy day. Of course, the wind caught him and whipped him away. We never saw him again. He probably was wishing to come back to the security of his cage and the safety of a home. But it was too late. Who knows what happened to BJ? I'm sure it wasn't good.

Christ has guidelines for us to follow. Sometimes they seem too confining, too small of walls. And yet, that is where we find our freedom.

Let's remember BJ when we are thinking of flying away on our own to do our own thing. Let's also remember that Christ has set us free — free to choose His way in our lives.

Joshua 24:15 – Choose you this day whom ye will serve. (KJV)

Galatians 3:24 – The law was like those Greek tutors, with which you are familiar, who escort children to school and protect them from danger or distraction, making sure the children will really get to the place they set out for. (MSG)

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You came to set us free. Often we think we are bound by rules and regulations and laws. But those laws are in place to point us to You. Thank You. Amen.
