Some Quiet Place

Listen to this devotional:

Mark 6:31 – Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (NIV)

On the way home from an evening at the Air Canada Centre in nearby Toronto, where I had attended a revival meeting, I found myself sitting rather quietly on a loaded bus. You might wonder why or even how a busload of women could be quiet, but it happened just after we had come through a construction area that slowed every vehicle down to a crawl.

It seemed to have an effect on the passengers. As I looked out the window at the maze of lanes and the masses of traffic merging onto the main highway, I thought of the passenger sitting directly behind me. I had been talking to her earlier and found she was over from Scotland visiting a relative. I turned to her and said, "I bet you will be glad to get back to your little village back home."

Though our evening had been energizing and filling, I was not used to all the coming and going of the big city, and I myself looked forward to being home in some quiet place.

How many of us long to have a place in our lives where we can find some rest? How do we find peace in such a busy world that we have created for ourselves?

In today's verse of Scripture, Jesus said simply, "Come with me."

In all we do and wherever we travel, we can find our rest in Jesus. Let us pray to find and know the top priority in our lives, so that we can find Jesus in our hearts.

The Bible tells us again:

Matthew 11:28 – Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, enable us to find a quiet place to be with You, a place where we can find rest and renewal, far away from the distractions and the busyness of this world. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
