Forward! March!

Exodus 14:10 – As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw them — Egyptians! Coming at them! They were totally afraid. They cried out in terror to God. (MSG)

Choosing a wall colour throws many of us into a tizzy. Afraid of change, we decorate with coconut, dark chocolate, and deep sand, each some form of the familiar prison of beige. Listen to these comments from "Straight Talk On Decorating" (Lynette Jennings, Meredith Press):

O.K, so you're free. Now you have to think about what you really, really want your home to be. Decorating is fun when you take away the fear and the rules. How do you really want to live? Freedom is scary. Real style means being sure of who you are, how you want to live and what you want for your loved ones.

Like the Israelites, we are already free, but we get stuck in our fear. We want to choose the old familiar lock-up. Beige. We don't want to change or to be changed. What a blessing when God won't let us live there! His command to the Israelites applies to us today.

Exodus 14:15a – Then the Lord said to Moses, "Quit praying and get the people moving! Forward, march!" (TLB)

God refused to let the Israelites stay in their beige safety zone. Slavery was no longer their life option, nor is it ours.

Prayer: God, we thank You that You refuse to let us go back to our former slavery, for Your Son has made us free and therefore we shall be free indeed. Give us Your grace to get on the move toward Your choice for us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
