You Are What You Do!

Listen to this devotional:

Ephesians 1:5 – God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his sons — this was his pleasure and purpose. (GNB)

At the gym where I exercise, there is a white board where inspiring messages are written. One of those messages recently read, "You are what you do!" It meant that if we exercise and eat properly, we will be healthy and have more energy.

In the spiritual realm, we are what we do with Jesus, because of what Jesus Christ has done for us. Yes, Jesus willingly came to earth to die for us — everyone who has ever lived, everyone who is living now, and everyone who will live in the future. He offers all of us the free gift of eternal life.

Romans 6:23 – For sin pays its wage — death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord. (GNB)

It is our choice to accept that gift or reject it. Choosing to accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour and continuing to serve Him as Lord guarantees a place in heaven for us eternally. The choice to accept that gift sets us free. By accepting Jesus, we become children of the King. It is all because of Him.

I love the chorus to the song, "A Child of the King", by Harriet E. Buell:

I'm a child of the King,
    A child of the King:
    With Jesus my Saviour,
I'm a child of the King.

Let's remember that it is true: we are what we are because of the choice we have made.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for what You did for us that we couldn't possibly do for ourselves. Thank You for offering us eternal life. It doesn't end there though. You keep changing us and growing us all through our lives. Help us to yield to that change. That is a choice as well. If we choose to yield, we will become more like You every day. We love You. Amen.
