Victim? Or Victor!

Listen to this devotional:

We live in a world where fear seems to be the motivator! Terrorism, bomb threats, super bugs — the list goes on. We are bombarded with fears in the news, the Internet, and the newspapers. No wonder there are days when we seem to be confused and stressed. Depression is common in seniors and children. No one is immune to fear.

Solomon knew that fear would cross all generations from his day to ours. He gave us wise counsel for daily living:
Proverbs 14:26 – He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. (NIV)
Proverbs 29:25b – Whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. (NIV)

We need not be a victim of fear! Jesus said:
Matthew 10:28a – Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. (NIV)

Nothing and no-one need keep us from living for God now and for eternity. We can be liberated from all fears by an ever-present, loving, and living God Who will never leave us nor forsake us.

Joshua 1:9 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (NIV)

Fear of loneliness, isolation, sickness, finances, even death, must not cause us to fear about today or the future. We have God's promise that He is never going to leave us on our own. He will walk before us, and when the way gets scary, He will hold us up so we can keep strong in Him. He promised — for always!
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

We can choose to be a victor — not a victim — and allow God to be our guide, claiming these words:
Psalm 33:20 – We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear God, we take You at Your word that whatever happens today is in your hands. Thank You for loving us and keeping us safe in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
