Fibre Up

Listen to this devotional:

Ephesians 6:11 – Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (KJV)

The news is out. Our food choices really affect our health and well-being. Apparently, fibre and anti-oxidant-rich whole grains are good for our health. Studies show that we can lower our personal risk of heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, and even diabetes by twenty-five to forty percent. That means we need to read and understand food labels and then choose products made with one hundred percent whole grain and whole wheat flour. Unfortunately, we will still actually have to apply what we have learned and eat a bowl of the stuff.

That's true of our spiritual life, too. Just reading the Bible doesn't do it. We have to apply what it says.

Ephesians 6:14-17 – Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's word is an indispensable weapon. (MSG)

Are we still just reading spiritual labels? Are we putting things in the "may purchase" shopping cart? Or are we filling our daily bowl and being victoriously energized by God's applied truth?

Prayer: Lord, You've always known that whole grain, high-fibre living was the way to go. Give us the grace to do more than just read labels. We really want to act on Your every word and live it out in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
