Slow To Anger? – I'm Trying!

Listen to this devotional:

In the last year and a half, I have had a more difficult time dealing with my anger. They say — and I'm still trying to figure out who "they" are — that it's probably due to changes in my health. Maybe you have experienced this, too. I used to be quick to forgive, less verbal in my replies to criticism, and much more merciful. Now, I'm not such a pretty picture!

So… I've had some work to do! I've improved, and it happened like this. Whenever I became angry and was going to lose it, I pictured a little sparrow on my right shoulder. He's just sitting there, listening, but he is full of the Holy Spirit. He knows every Bible verse, every commandment, and every parable, but he's not judgmental. In fact, he's smiling, and he's watching me! When I see this little bird, I suddenly lose the tension and anger I'm feeling and the need to express it wrongly. My whole body relaxes and I deal with the problem in a much better way. It's taking time, but I now feel that the little sparrow is even happier, and maybe I'm learning about what the following verse means for me:

Psalm 103:8 – The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy and loving-kindness. (AMP)

Prayer: We thank You, Lord, for Your love for us, and for Your Word and what it teaches us. May You open our eyes and hearts to the lessons. Amen.
