The news about a five-year-old girl being raped in India has caused worldwide concern and disgust. The recent bombings at the Boston Marathon and the shootings that are so prevalent these days have also caused concern and anxiety.
Luke 8:17 – For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. (NASB)
These devastating crimes have been brought out into the open by individuals who had the strength and wisdom to make these things public. Some brave soul in India brought to light the horrific act of rape. People at the Boston Marathon turned in the pictures and video on their cell phones and cameras in order to capture the terrorists and bring the two individuals to justice. Many police and first responders also helped in bringing this tragic event to an end.
It is by people speaking up and denying themselves that perpetrators are caught and brought to justice.
Ephesians 5:11-13 – Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. (NASB)
Matthew 5:14 – You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. (NASB)
May we, when we see an injustice being done to another human being or see an evil deed that is being done in darkness, stand up and speak out. Is this not what we are called to do?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we are shocked and anxious about what we see on television and read in the newspaper these days. Yet, there is hope when people deny themselves and bring to light what was in the darkness. Give us the strength to expose that which is evil. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Thanks Rosemary – And but for the grace of God there go any of us! Jeremiah 17:9. It’s certainly the right thing to expose the wickedness, also keeping in mind in all humbleness that it is only by the grace of God that we are delivered from such wickedness ourselves. Romans ch.5.

Thanks for your thoughts on the two disasters and thanks for pointing out the scriptures that help us as Christians to cope with all the bad things that happen around us all the time. God is ever on the Throne and we can depend on Him to deal with what we are helpless to deal with.

Thank you for your devotional.
Though we must speak out to counteract sin, we must be careful to give the way of God the most weight, else we are giving the evil more publicity than the way of God and people tend to give attention to, and to think about the evil more than about the good, if the evil is given more time and place.
I don’t mean to be accusative, but to ask all of us people to remember that what we give attention to is very important. Satan enjoys it when his evil gets lots of attention. Also, people attending to evil tend to think, “I’m not that bad, and tend to think that anything up to that level of badness is permissible.
Jesus says, “Set your eyes on things above, not on things of this world.”
I pray that God will continue to bless you in your writing, and in all ways.
