Mastering The Road Map

Once a challenge, technology has almost relegated them to the annals of history.

Mastering a road atlas is taxing. The more territory it covers, the less detail there is present and the more jumbled the highways, interstates, and cities are. Trying to follow a particular route is a chore when we cross one of these congested areas. I've done my share of road map reading. Looking at it right-side-up usually confuses me on my turns, so I normally face it the way I'm travelling. Fortunately, apps on cell phones and GPSs have almost made such maps extinct.

God's Word is the believer's road map and the key that opens the "learning to do good" lock.

Titus 3:14 – Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive. (NLT)

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword. … It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (NLT)

God's Word was written thousands of years ago, but the power of God's Spirit, who inspired the writers of this ancient book, still makes it come alive to those who take time to read and meditate on the principles. Power to do good results when I apply the principles and become a doer of the Word rather than a casual hearer. God's Word convicts and cuts me like a double-edged sword when I observe His standards and then compare them with mine and how I practice them daily. It reveals who I truly am in my innermost being, rather than the person I often let others observe. It's my road map, which, when followed correctly and consistently, keeps me on the path of holy living and sacrificial serving, and keeps my perspective on eternal things. Let us all take up God's road map and enjoy success at travelling life's good road.

Prayer: Thank You, eternal God, for providing the road map that leads us to forgiveness of sin, service to others, successful living, and eventually, an eternity with You. Amen.

Martin, it is great to have you share with us today. Thank you for the wonderful sharing. May God continue to bless you.

Martin, Learned to read road maps as a child and do not travel without them. The only GPS I own is my Bible. Thanks for the message. Blessings.

    Martin!
Good sitting reading your devotional for the day as the road map.
Low at His feet – trusting God to map the journey!
    Blessings!

Having just had a trip from Ontario Canada to the southern most art of Pennsylvania with three adults in the car. Our daughter, the driver, had her blackberry with written instructions which I was monitoring. My husband was in the ‘nagivator’ seat with a verbal GPS. And if both of these were confusing I had the good old map to clarify which way we should go. So I totally get today’s devotional. It did not help that all these about 60 years I have ridden the ‘nagivator’ seat and just told my husband the diver where to turn etc. and yes I mean ‘nagivator’ not ‘navigator’.
We also have an Atlas that I have handy because I get it out when I hear about situations and to clarify just where a place is although my atlas is too outdated to help with a lot of Africa.
    Thank you for your writings.

Another good message Martin pointing us in the right direction; may we use God’s Word as a road map for every area of our lives.
    Blessings.

    Dear Martin;
    Thank you.
