Frazzled

Have you ever had one of those days when everything you do seems to go wrong and you end up feeling frazzled with too many things on your plate? You feel like throwing everything up in the air and running away. I have.

My day started by trying to pick out the right outfit to wear. I chose one outfit, tried it on and discarded it onto the floor; for some reason, it just didn't look right. Then I tried on a skirt and top and discarded those onto the floor. Pants and a top came next, but they, too, got tossed onto the pile. With no decision made, I looked at the pile, closed my eyes and chose as I was running late for an appointment. I grabbed my purse and car keys and ran out the front door. My husband's voice followed me. He wanted to know what groceries to buy for dinner that evening. I was feeling frustrated and stressed out, so I told him that I didn't have time to converse with him right then because I was running late.

It seems that at times like these, especially when we are in a hurry, there is always someone ahead who is driving much too slowly. I just couldn't believe it. As I glanced at my watch, I realized that I was going to be really late for my appointment. As I was driving, it started to rain, and not a slow, steady rain, but a downpour.

Up ahead, I noticed a runner on the side of the highway. I had a choice to make: Should I pull over and ask if she needed a ride, or should I just pass by? I pulled over and asked if she would like a ride, as she was totally drenched. She was very appreciative and got into the car. She also told me that she was hoping that someone would stop. I dropped her off at her home, which was not too far from where I had picked her up.

Matthew 25:40 – And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." (NKJV)

My little "Good Samaritan" deed made me feel good inside, not only because I had helped someone, but also because I had obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I believe that God allows situations in our lives when we have to make a choice. Either we help out someone in need, or we ignore them and complain about the situation in which we find ourselves.

Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)

Prayer: Lord God, when we are faced with anxiety or frustration, or we are just too busy and frazzled, help us to trust in You and cast all our anxiety on You. Keep us mindful of the need to be open to the promptings of Your Spirit, so that we can serve You best. Remind us that everything will work out for the best for those who trust in You. Calm our nerves, and guide us always. Amen.

    Good thought Rosemary.

Hi what a nice person you are!! God bless.

Another lovely devotional Rosemary. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Rosemary. Great reminder for everyone and very timely in my case.

What is it about that clothes thing anyway? Often find myself in the same quandary!

    Good day Mrs Hagedorn,
I prayed the prayer, as it made sense to me personally.

    Rosemary,
Thanks for your writings. I’ve had more than my share of these types of days, but YES, your advice and being open to the Spirit, brings peace and comfort.

    Dear Rosemary,
I’m preparing to co-lead an evening gathering, but I will take a moment to say, “Thank you, for reminding us to slow down and do the Lord’s will — no matter when.
    Keep writing.

Sounds so familiar, Rosy. That’s when our nasty old enemy gets a chance to throw off our entire day. Been there, and like you, had to make a decision which way to jump.
But praise the Lord, He never fails to guide us in those snap decisions when He knows our mind is open to His leading.

    Hi Rosemary:
I know the frazzled feeling. I often wonder if this feeling takes over because it is a point in time where we are not totally in tune with our commitment to Christ?? However you made a great comeback in taking on the Good Semartian role and coming to the aid of the “Runner In Ddistress.” Amazing how the Holy Spirit came along just when you needed him and gave you the little jolt you needed to make your day more pleasant. God is so good.
Always enjoy your message, you do prick my conscience and make me more aware of my daily walk.
    Blessings.
