Listen while you read: "Take My Life And Let It Be"1 (Lyrics)

A good friend of mine — a published author of both fiction and non-fiction — is writing a new suspense novel, and she sent me her manuscript. I'm caught up in the story. Full of tension and expectation, the book has me on the edge of my seat, wondering if the girl is going to find justice and if the guy is going to win her heart.

There's only one problem. The book isn't finished yet.

Thankfully, this author-friend has previously written multiple stories. I've read many of them to the end, and none has left me disappointed. I agreed to read her unfinished suspense novel, because I trust that she knows the ending.

And she's a good author.

Each of our lives is an unfinished story. With a job loss soon and a chronic illness that means my health is always uncertain, my life feels like a suspense novel with an unwritten ending. I suspect that I'm not alone. Unknowns lie ahead for all of us.

But in the heart of the Author of our stories, they were written before time began and before we came onto the scene. He figured out plot and character and set the stage from the beginning. He has been unfolding that story year by year, revealing new chapters and adding tension and expectation.

Our God has written multiple stories throughout the centuries. We can read many of them in His Word, and we won't be left disappointed.

Psalm 147:11 – The Lord takes pleasure … in those who hope in His mercy. (NKJV)

When we trust that the Lord knows the ending to our story and what's going to happen in the chapters ahead, our faith gives Him pleasure.

He does know the end.

And He's a really good Author.

Hebrews 12:1b-2a – Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. (NKJV)

Prayer: Lord, thank You that we can put our trust in You as You unfold the stories of our lives. Help us to run our race with endurance as we fix our eyes on You. Amen.

    Love it!!

Lovely devotional today Bethany! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for a good reminder Bethany. I’m glad he’s in control rather than humans.

God spoke to me through you today. Thank you and many blessings with your story!

You should be an author, BEthany! Thanks for this well-written devotional.

Bethany, Thank you for this well written reminder that with Jesus in our lives, our story will end with us worshiping our Saviour in eternity. Blessings.

    A novel perspective Bethany,
I can relate. with Him all things are possible.
    May God abundantly bless you.

It is so true; we all have a story and we don’t know it’s ending, only God knows. Great devotional, I enjoyed reading it.
    Keep writing.

Thank you for the reminder today, that God knows the rest of our story, and He has a wonderful plan. I am currently awaiting medical test results, and although I obviously want good news, I have so far managed to leave the worrying to God. Your message today reinforced that. Thank you.

    Bethany,
This is a beautiful meditation! It reminds me of the apostle Paul, who realized he was living in an unfinished story – one that went way beyond his own circumstances. Paul trusted its Author too. And as for himself, he could say with confidence, “Nothing can separate me from the love of God.”

Beautiful analogy. The best part is when you say that when we trust the Lord … our faith pleases Him. That’s something I’m trying to imbed in my mind just now, that He finds more pleasure in our faith, in trusting Him with the outcomes of our story, than in the perfection of our words and actions. It’s almost as if if our faith is the perfection He looks for and yearns for. God bless.

    Hi Bethany,
I truly enjoyed reading your devotional today, -a simple truth, wrapped in its own intriguing, unfinished story, backed by relateable situation, underscribed by scripture. You have a very nice style of writing.
I am praying for you for a satisfying ending to your own story. I am facing a similar situation and can relate.
Thank you for blessing me and many others this morning.
