Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (NIV)
"My head is full of broken bottles" is an old Glaswegian saying from Scotland that I sometimes experience and express. To me, it means that I can't really concentrate on what I need to do and that my focus is all out of whack. It usually occurs after a bad night's sleep or a stressful time. My mind can't fix on anything, and I'm relatively unproductive until it passes.
When I go through those moments, Bible verses like the one for today reassure me that Christ is in control and that no matter what happens, His words will endure. The older I get, the wiser Jesus becomes. When I am weak, He is strong. When my mind is scattered, He is mindful of me.
Perhaps you're feeling something similar today and don't know what to do about it. Maybe the solution is that sometimes, we don't have to do anything — we just have to allow ourselves to be embraced by Christ and depend on His promises.
Points to ponder: How am I feeling today? Am I letting Christ hold on to me?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are there for us in so many different and reliable ways. You know our needs before we ask; You understand our feelings before we express them. Thank You for always being near to us. In Your holy name, we gratefully pray. Amen.

Thursday, April 18, 2024 – In East Asia — Pray for more partners who become trainers in our house church planting network in East Asia. We are asking God for around ten of these trainers for each district in our region. May the Lord grant them courage in their next step of faith.

Thought for Today, Tomorrow. “If you always keep looking in your rear view mirror, you’ll only know where you’ve been, but have no idea where you are going.
Hi John, In answer to your question ,”How are you feeling today?”, I would say “You hit the nail on the head.”
However, to clarify, I have just come home from surgery so that is easily explained. Fortunately, it is not my usual state of mind.
On a positive note I add the fact that our wonderful Lord has been providing for all of my needs during this fuzzy time, and I praise Him for His faithfulness. That is a better description of my deep down feelings.

Hi John,
I can relate to your devotional this morning, I am trying to prepare for a worship service, but I am unable to concentrate, my thoughts are all over the place and I am not yet happy with the words I wrote. I know it is getting down to “Crunch Time” but that is the way it is this morning.
I’m taking your advice, I’m not going to do anything else and let the Lord guide me, today and tomorrow.
I feel better already.

Once again you have given me what I need for today. I am unable to help financially people who are dearest to me and my husband feels neglected because I cannot do the things I used to do for him. We are both in our 80s. Every morning I go over what needs to be done including getting to my devotions. Sometimes it’s impossible but I pray as I’m tending to necessities of the home. I find in your devotional today, just what I need to do. Let Jesus hold on to me. Broken bottles is a good description of how I sometimes feel. You’ve given me an uplift this morning.
