A Paper Trail

Psalm 85:12-13 – Yes, the Lord will give what is good; and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway. (NKJV)

Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire is reported to be the largest privately-owned house in Great Britain. It boasts over 100,000 square feet of opulent space in more than three hundred rooms and, of course, a maze of corridors.

In days gone by, when guests were invited to supper as well as to stay overnight, they were issued with confetti, which they would scatter when leaving their rooms, providing a trail to the dining hall. In this way, at the end of the evening, they could easily find their way back to their rooms.

The confetti, in fact, acted as a guide, each piece of paper providing an integral part of getting the guests back to the comfort of their allotted rooms.

God's Word can be compared to confetti, although the trail for us to follow is provided by His words — a different paper trail altogether. Each page of the Bible can lead us to find comfort when we follow the direction of God.

The Bible's words will always lead us to a refuge whenever we have need of a quiet haven. Much like confetti leading guests in centuries past in the great house of Wentworth Woodhouse, God's words can provide us with solace, whenever our journey through life is in need of tangible direction. This is available to us every single day: not just for our days on earth, but forever.

Once we trust the source and we invite Jesus into our lives — believing that He came to earth and died to redeem each of us from sin — His Spirit will lead us along the correct path in life if we follow Him. Like the folk in Wentworth Woodhouse, we find comfort knowing that as we are led along the passages of our lives, we do have the assurance of rest and relief at the end of our life's journey.

Prayer: Abba, we can easily lose our way in this world, but we long to make right decisions and take the right path in life. Help us to discover what that is by following Your leading along a road to everlasting luxury in the spiritual realm that You have provided for each of us, when we choose to follow You. Amen.

    Hi Pat, This message gives me a gentle sense of assurance that I shall always find my way back to a place of rest and safety in Christ if I am careful to follow the way He has provided for me.
    Thanks for the reminder.

    Hi Patricia;
    I googled Wentworth Woodhouse. What an impressive, amazingly large house that is; simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing your analogy of confetti as we journey along.

    Thank you for sharing your inspired possibility for us all to find our way home.
    Blessings.

    Very interesting devotional Patricia.
    I had never heard of Wentworth but is really made me envious of all that space. We live in a town house. It also reassured me of my Father’s house which has many mansions. And the way we know because He has shown us a wonderful way of getting there: simply by believing in His Son. And all guests that want to come are invited.
    Blessings.

    Your devotional today was very graphic and greatly appreciated.

    Hi Patricia,
    I never knew about Wentworth Woodhouse. It must have been a full-time job cleaning up all the confetti once the guests had left.
    It’s good the Lord leads us through life with His footsteps. If I tried to lead myself through life I’d botch it all up.
    Thank you for your devotional today.

    Thanks Pat. What an interesting devotional.

    Wonderful devotion Patricia.

    Lovely Patricia. Thank you.
    All the best for 2013.

    Pat, Amen! May we always find our way marked by God’s paper trail as inscribed in His Word. Blessings.

    Good Morning Patricia;
    What an interesting devotional portraying the fact that our Lord did indeed leave a track for us, a track that is provided in His written word. A beautiful track that will lead us to Him and our heavenly home when He has a room prepared for us when our journey here on earth is finished.
    Thank you for the great illustration. I have been in the Yorkshire area several times, beautiful countryside. Makes me lonely, because I know my traveling days to Europe are over.
    Blessings.
