The Cards Of Life

One of my favourite pastimes is playing a game of cards called euchre. My husband and I try to play every week with two other ladies. There are times when we lose, and then there are times when we win. One night recently, I lost a few games. In cards, someone has to be the loser, and it's too bad that no one has invented a card game where everyone wins! If we are dealt the right cards, we are able to play at leisure; it is a little harder to play the hand that we are dealt if the cards are crummy. The game involves chance and also a risk.

As I thought about my loss, I considered how this card game is so much like my life. I can take charge of the life that I am dealt by taking a chance or a big risk, and in doing so, make a wrong decision or choice. I can also turn my life over to Jesus, Who will always be there for me, leading me down the right path, if I let Him.

Whatever the cards we are dealt in life or the decisions that we make or take, Jesus will work it out in the end, and we will become winners in His eyes.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (NASB)

Jesus is the trump or wild card, Who gave up His life for all, and everyone wins!

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to sacrifice His life on a cross for us all. As human beings, we sometimes make foolish choices that lead to lives that are uncomfortable and uncontrollable. Be with us and help us to make right decisions in our life, play, and worship. Lead us on the pathway that leads to everlasting life. Amen.

    Rosy,
I loved today’s devotional. We are richly blessed to be followers of Christ.

I love Romans 8:28 – it’s comforting to know God is in control of every situation.
    Blessings.

    Hi Rosy,
    Very good analogy.
    Blessings!

Hi Rosemary, this is one of my favourite analogies. Jesus is indeed the Trump, even when things seem to be going badly. How wonderful to be able to count on Him to sort things out. God bless.

Right on, Rosy. Never a truer word spoken (or written).
Thank you for a good thought for the day.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

    Hi Rosemary:
Thank you so much for that devotional.
We play quite a bit of Canasta with our friends. I will be thinking of this the next time I lose! Jesus is my wild card!!
God bless and thank you for your writings.

I appreciated & enjoyed your Devotional today, Rosemary.
I can understand how playing cards can be used for good or not good.
In my case, I never learned to play cards, for my revered saintly father taught us to NEVER play cards, for he said, it inevitably leads to gambling, which destroys lives.
Oh well, to each his own!
    Blessings.

    Thank you Rosemary.

    Another good one Rosemary.
