Texting Troubles

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory"1 (Lyrics)

Are you a senior texter? Apparently the following terms might be more familiar to us than the ones younger folks use:

    ATD – At The Doctor's
BYOT – Bring Your Own Teeth
CUATSC – See You At The Senior Centre
FWIW – Forgot Where I Was
    GHA – Got Heartburn Again
IMHO – Is My Hearing Aid On?
ROTFL … CGU – Rolling On The Floor Laughing … Can't Get Up!

Does anyone but me have trouble keeping up with technology? I barely mastered e-mail before Facebook and Twitter arrived, then it was an MP3, an e-reader, and a GPS.

I still don't text … but I know that I will master it eventually, just as I will one day master the sin in my life.

Genesis 4:6-7 – And the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? And why do you look sad and depressed and dejected? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you, but you must master it. (AMP)

What about you?

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for falling behind, not in technology but in sin. Help us, Lord. Amen.

    Very good Brenda.

    Good message, Brenda!

    Thank you Brenda,
    Entertaining but true. Well said.

    Good morning Brenda
Love your devotional. I will print this off and give it to folks. We are having a birthday celebration. I have been thinking of something to send home with folks. When I read this I had a great chuckle. Wow, this is perfect.

Wonderful! Love it and the message re sin which accompanies your timely theme. Being a senior…for many, many years, I am pleased to say I compute, e-mail, FaceBook, Skype etc etc. but wonder what next in modern technology. I love your Senior vocabulary re texting. What a wonderful world. May we pass on our praise of this world to those who seem to be gazing at their IPhones when all around them is God’s wonderful world. Thanks again. You brightened my day!

Brenda, I had to chuckle through your entire Devotional offer because you were describing me to a ‘T’. Being in my late 80’s I am satisfied how well I have been able to handle the Net, the emailing, etc etc, without feeling any interest in texting, Facebook, Twitter or any other ‘hooker’. I find the ease and the rapidity of plain emailing with my many contacts and interests are just fine, thank you.
Keep submitting, I like your humour. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gave God a slight smile, He who, I am working hard to please.

    Good Morning Brenda.
Your terms are hilarious, however, I am perplexed at what you mean in your line..”I still don’t text, but I know I will master it eventually, just like the sin in my life”.
My thought is, that for old minds like mine, perhaps having written “just as I will one day master the sin in my life”.
Perhaps the lack of clarity on my part comes from a long discussion a with a friend who was telling me how to miss even one word in an important conversation can have a whole different meaning.
    Thanks.

    Good Morning Brenda
What an interesting devotion you wrote.
Technology has definitely progressed quickly over the past few years, leaving one, at times, feeling like one is behind. In reality, is this truly “progress”?
I know several of my older relatives who are senior citizens feel they are lagging behind as their grandchildren teasingly say “oh Grandpa! You’re so old-fashioned!” to the man who does not yet have a cell phone. (they gave him one for his birthday — he agrees it’s useful to have in case the car breaks down but he doesn’t want it as his constant companion!) Young people insist it is wonderful to be always in touch with friends as they tweet, text, and post on Facebook constantly….but take a look at the result of this activity. Texting has resulted in many young people being unable to spell properly — university professors do not find it “gr8” to be given essays with contractions and text abbreviations, as first year students quickly learn!‎ And does one truly have several thousand “friends” with whom one must share every detail of one’s life? Communication has suffered at the hands of this shiny new advance.
I’m not meaning to compare modern-age technological advances with sin(!) but one does have to use this carefully — people have lost job offers and jobs due to thoughtless Facebook posts! We have advanced but at what cost? ‎Over-indulgence in anything can make it a sin so like everything, we do need to master technology so it doesn’t rule us, just as we must master sin so it does not rule our lives either.
Don’t feel badly if you don’t tweet, text, use tumblr, etc. regularly — there are some who still enjoy receiving an old-fashioned handwritten note or letter that contains real words, not text abbreviations.
    Do continue to write!
    God bless!

    My dear friend,
That entire devotional was just one big swallow. Not even any milk to wash it down. As usual, short, sweet, and to the point.
Still don’t know how you do it, but point well taken.

    Dear Brenda,
    Brief, but pointed.
May God grant you the faith and energy to fulfill the sanctified desires and purposes of your heart.
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalms 37:4).
    In Jesus name. Amen.
