Refreshing Showers

Lying in bed in the hospital recently for days, fighting pneumonia and enduring night sweats and other miseries, I was feeling so in need of a cleansing shower. As I was attached to machines and very weak, I could not make my way down the hall to the showers. Glorious was the morning that I was able to do that. I stepped out of the shower feeling so cleansed and refreshed. I am sure that many of my readers know that feeling. How thankful and blessed I was to receive this gift of a cleansing shower.

Psalm 51:2 – Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (NKJV)

Just as the physical cleansing from the shower made me feel clean and fresh once more, God's spiritual cleansing does even more for our souls. He washes those dirty sins away that we have been hanging onto for days or even years. When we confess them to Him, He washes them whiter than snow, and we feel clean and refreshed once more. He sends us showers of blessing.

There shall be showers of blessing, This is the promise of love, There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Saviour above.        – Daniel Whittle

Often, we find ourselves feeling weighed down by carrying heavy burdens of guilt and shame. This is when we need to turn to Jesus; He will make us new again. He will give us strength beyond what we could ever imagine. He will send us cleansing showers. He wants us to reach out to Him in our need. His love is reaching out to us to turn to Him.

Matthew 11:28-30 – Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light. (NKJV)

This is the promise of God. Let us therefore lay our burdens down before Him, and experience His showers of blessing and cleansing today.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we pray that all those who are sick and weary from both physical and spiritual ailments will turn to You in their need. May we realize that Your never-ending grace is reaching out to us to turn to You. You are the only One Who can cleanse us with healing waters, and we humbly thank You for cleansing us from our sins, and healing us when we are ill. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Thanks June for your words of encouragement.

Thank you June, for the reminder that we get bogged down in sin and need to acknowledge it before God and repent. The ensuing peace is refreshing indeed.

Thanks for this uplifting message, June. Sorry to read you have been so ill. Hope you are on the mend now.
    Blessings.

Thank you, June, for this morning’s devotional. It resonated with me particularly today, as I got drenched by a sudden morning shower while walking the dog!
    Blessings.

Thank you June for your devotional today. It was what I needed to hear “for such a time as this”.
May God continue to use you as you take His yoke upon you. I so appreciated your scripture verses and was reminded to lay my burdens down and continue to allow Him to lead and carry.
    Continued Showers of blessings!

    Dear June
    Greetings! Happy Friday.
Thanks very much for sharing this amazing devotion, and yes, I am one of those who have had the very same experience of waiting for a shower, after recovery.
I just wish you well, and hope that you are rehabilitated.
May God bless you and strengthen you as you continue to send these very warm devotions to us readers.
Be of good health and good cheer.

    Hello June,
Thank you for your reminder this morning of God’s on-going grace towards us! What we know from experience and Bible study can yet be held at a distance, so to speak, unless we come, as you related, to the personal re-living of God’s touch. I guess it is in part at least a focusing error: too much on our circumstances, and not enough on Jesus. We do need to let Him wash us again… and again.
Thank you, and blessings to you!

    Dear June,
This is a very precious devotional.
The physical and spiritual healing are so connected often.
I pray for the healing of your body, and for the rest of your soul in coming to Jesus the healer of body and soul.
Jesus wants us to surrender all to him. He has taken our sins and our illnesses upon himself. He cares for every detail. By grace we are saved through faith, and we live day by day by faith.
    Keep writing.

So sorry to hear you’ve been ill but that your heart is in the right place I have no doubt…in God’s hands.

Good morning June. What a strong and beautiful name you have… the height of summer here, is June… and to have a name like heal… WOW.
Thank you for that timely devotional. I don’t think I have ever had pneumonia, but I have been at death’s door more than once and am a Walking Miracle that I am still alive and functioning. God’s Grace and Mercy are fresh every morning and we cannot really know when He will bless us and take us home, or when He will revive and sustain us… for such a time as this! My sister uses that phrase to me often, probably to remind me how much I am loved. I still do not know my full purpose here for God, but that’s quite okay. I take life one day at a time and rejoice and give thanks. I am way too young to be dying, and all God’s strengths cover my weaknesses. I love the rainfall.
    Thanks for this Devotional!

    Hi June,
I enjoyed this devotional very much.
To begin with it confirmed to me that God was the author.
The Lord is evidently underlining certain points he wants me to hear.
    Thank you for your thoughts.

Your devotional showered me with the blessing of the Lord’s encouraging word. Thanks for writing. Blessings.
