Nobody's Child

Romans 8:16 – The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (NKJV)

John 1:12-13 – But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (NJKV)

As I was listening to some of our Scottish music the other day, I was reminded of the time when our son was about three years old. He was particularly touched by one song we used to listen to. The name of the song was "Nobody's Child", sung by the Alexander Brothers. It was about an orphan boy, and the chorus went like this:

    I'm nobody's child, I'm nobody's child.
I'm like a flower just growing wild.
No mommy's kisses, and no daddy's smile
Nobody wants me, I'm nobody's child.

We would often catch him listening to this piece with tears in his eyes.

How blessed we Christians are! For we are children of the living God, the Creator of heaven and earth. We need never experience what the orphan in the song felt. God created us. We belong to God. We were chosen by God before time began. He knows each one of us by name! We are loved. We are accepted. We are part of God's family. We are forgiven. God has redeemed us through the precious blood of His Son, Jesus. God is always with us. He has sent us His Spirit to live in us so that we can be strengthened to do His will.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You that you have adopted us as Your children. Fill our hearts with love for You and inspire us to glorify You in everything we do. Help us to share each other's burdens and sorrows and build each other up. Unite our hearts as one as we seek to be Your family here on earth. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
