Summer Vacation

Thursday, July 5, 2001

Now that summer holidays are here, we are busy planning our vacation. We are travelling west — not a small feat for a family that includes a three- and a six-year-old. We will be starting our trip with four straight days of travelling, 800 km each day, sleeping each night in a tent.

We are looking at maps and guidebooks, deciding where we should go and what we should see. We are making endless lists of what to take with us: food, camping gear, clothing for all types of weather, and diversions to occupy the children — crafts, books, and tapes.

It will be very exciting. We will be seeing many wonderful and new things. It will also be at times very trying: setting up a tent each night and packing it up in the morning to get back on the road, and four long days, confined to the van. I am sure there will be many squabbles.

We must also remember to pack the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22,26 – But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. We must not be proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one another. (GNB)

If we are filled with His Spirit, we can't help but have a wonderful vacation.

Prayer: Loving God, many families are now packing to make a summer journey. Guide them, protect them, show them Your peace. Keep them safe until they return home. Help them to remember their holidays and the wonderful family memories they are creating. Amen.
