John 4:23-24 – Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth. (NIV)

How should we be led to worship God? In today's passage from the book of John, we are told that the true worshipper will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith. Today, do we, as a community of believers, come together in the spirit of truth and draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith? With this question in mind, I come to something that took place in our church.

I was standing at the rear of the church and quietly waiting for the processional music to start. As I waited, I observed the front cover of the church calendar. The words have been there for as long as I can remember.

      You Enter This Church

Not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. He is your Heavenly Father.
Come, then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips,
into His presence, offering Him your love and service.
Here may the faithful find salvation, and the careless be awakened.
Here may the doubting find faith, and the anxious be encouraged.
Here may the tempted find help, and the sorrowful comfort.
Here may the weary find rest, and the strong be renewed.
Here may the aged find consolation, and the young be inspired.

After reading over the words, I was led to think that, as guests of God, we should prepare ourselves for worship. We are called to the worship of our God in His sanctuary! Taking a quiet time to read and ponder these words might lead us into an attitude of prayer and reflection.

Let us each take time to reflect upon and focus on God, so that we might each be prepared for worship.

Prayer: Almighty and everlasting God, we come to you today, to praise you and to give thanks for all you have done for us through this past week. We give you all the honour and glory as we come to worship you with all our hearts. Open our spiritual eyes that we may see and hear through the Holy Spirit, that which you direct to us. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
