Under The Circumstances

Tuesday, October 29, 2002

1 Peter 1:6-7 – In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (NASB)

There is a true tale about a woman who lost her contact lens, prayed, and found the lens only because it landed on the back of an astonished ant.

Like that ant, we have all been burdened by surprise. We have experienced illness, job loss, marriage difficulty, and financial stress. What do we do in the midst of these loads?

Some try to go around, others aim to climb over, and some work their way through.

A man was once asked, "How are you doing?" He answered, "Oh, I am alright, under the circumstances." His friend countered, "What are you doing under there?"

Like the ant, if only we would look up, we would see Jesus magnified in the midst of our difficulty.

Prayer: Father God, help us to magnify You in the midst of our trouble, our burdens, and our difficulties. Help us remember that nothing will touch us that hasn't already passed through Your hands. Give us Your courage, courage to stop living under the circumstances. In Jesus' name. Amen.
