That Joy Of The Open Door

Revelation 3:8 – I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. (NIV)

After a long winter that was bitterly cold and brought plenty of snow, we had finally experienced four bright and sunny days.

We were late coming home, and the sun was pouring in from the back yard. I opened the door, and it was like having a huge addition put on to the house. Everywhere I looked, it was like being in a different room.

As I enjoyed my much larger home with all these different rooms that filled my heart with a new perspective, I reflected on older people who can end up feeling so closed in during the winter months. I was made aware of how great it is just to open the door to something bright and new.

We can easily compare this with how it is when one first becomes a Christian, opening the door to let Jesus come into the heart. The brilliance that showers in on us, as we reach out and open that door, is an experience something like I had when I opened the door of our house, letting the light shine in, with its warmth and brilliance.

Once we experience that joy of the open door that will never be closed, we can look forward to a new life in Christ. His life fills our many rooms, giving us new adventures, and new things to explore. Together in Christ, we see life made new, even with the little strength we might have left. He strengthens us to do His work right on to the end.

Prayer: Thank You, O Lord, for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who waits patiently for us to open the door of life. Though we grow weaker with age, help us to trust, and to be assured that we will find strength enough in Him, once we have opened that door that will never be shut, and have let the light of life shine in. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
