Directionally Challenged

Matthew 7:7 – Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (NIV)

I sometimes think I'm directionally challenged. I've been known to get lost in small towns, eventually discovering my destination, but having travelled several extra kilometres. Unlike me, my husband, Hugh, has a remarkable sense of direction. He tells me that he sat in the front seat of the family's van and directed his father through the traffic in London, England, when he was twelve years old.

How does he do this? One of his secrets is to study the map and make a list of the route numbers he'll need to watch for as we drive along. Over the years, I've travelled with him through many cities in several different countries, and only once or twice has he ever been lost. On those occasions, we were grateful when someone took the time to give us new instructions, and point us in the right direction.

In our journey through life, we can be spared extra kilometres if we study the maps and direction signs that are given to us in the Bible. Jesus has gone on before us and He has said, "I am the way." (John 14:6 NIV) Now all we have to do is follow.

Prayer: God, help us to study Your directions so that we will arrive safely at our destination, the home You have prepared for us in heaven. Amen.
