The Bank Machine Blues

Jeremiah 17:5 – Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord. (NASB)

We faced it the Canadian way, with calm panic! Most of us were not prepared for the great blackout of 2003. We had little or no cash on hand.

Because our local convenience store owner needed to be on hand to keep his portable generator going, he opened his doors to a steady supply of customers —and took I.O.U.s from most of them.

Those I.O.U. customers had expected their bank machines to be always there. They depended on the undependable.

We all live like that. We depend on cars that stop, bodies that give up, and people who let us down. What a waste.

Instead, let's turn our whole-hearted attention and trust to the unchanging God Who never stops loving us, never gives up on us, and never lets us down.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 – Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit. (NASB)

John 3:18 – Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to Him. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear unfailing Father God, You know how our hearts wander past You to stuff that is sure to fail us. Thanks for always being there to pick up the pieces of our misplaced trust. Thanks for teaching us to depend only on You! In Jesus' name. Amen.
