Invitation To Join

2 Peter 1:3 – His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (NIV)

When I first moved to Thomasville as a young woman, I was extended an invitation to join the Junior Woman's Club. I was so excited. The invitation meant that my peers had accepted me as a social equal. I now felt as though I belonged to my new community.

As exciting as the invitation to join a club was, it was no equal to the greatest invitation I ever received — Christ's invitation to come into the kingdom of God. When I received the invitation to join the club, I prepared by learning the rules of the club, what its projects were, and what I would need to do as a member.

We are to respond to God's invitation by getting to know how to live in God's kingdom. Through Christ's glory and goodness, we are extended great promises, including becoming "participants of the divine nature". We are invited to enter into a union with Christ who makes the promise, and to live now in the hope that the future will be one designed for us by Christ. We are invited to take the path that leads to eternal life and a relationship with Christ. This invitation offers a lifetime membership and the privileges of spending eternity with Him.

Could we ask for a greater invitation?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Jesus Christ who issues us an invitation to enter Your kingdom and who paid our dues for us. Amen.
