Facing The Giant (2)

John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (NIV)

Once I decided to face my fear of feeding the chickens, it wasn't the belligerent rooster that made my trip memorable. It was the mouse scurrying about the feed bin that caused me to run back to the house. This tiny creature frightened me so much that I neglected the task my mother had set before me. Before I left the house, my mother's prayer had prepared me to face the much bigger fear, the bossy rooster, but I allowed a tiny mouse to cause me to lose my focus.

Occasionally we do lose our focus, and become sidetracked from the task God has called us to do. In most cases this loss isn't the result of the giants in our lives, but the small things that we allow to build up in our minds until they appear to be giant-size. In the situation I have recounted, my mother calmed my fear when she took me by the hand, and went with me to feed the chickens. In life, God is there to take us by the hand, and to go each step of the way with us when we face our personal giants.

James 5:13 – Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive us when we are guilty of allowing the small irritants of life to cause us to lose our vision of what You would have us do for You. Amen.
