God's Lessons From Little Folk (5)

It was Mother's Day and my four-year-old daughter watched as my husband presented a bouquet of roses to his mother. "Happy Mother's Day," he said as he leaned over and gave her a kiss. The remainder of the visit was filled with lively chatter and happy memories.

Later as we were preparing to go home, our daughter was nowhere to be found. "We're leaving," I called. "It's time to go in the car." It took her a few minutes to respond, but when she did, she came from the direction of the back yard. In her hands was a large bouquet of yellow dandelions, and on her face was a smile that lit up her mother's heart.

"Happy Mother's Day," she said as she reached up to give me a kiss. She had no roses to give, but her bouquet of dandelions was the best gift she could offer, a gift of love from her heart.

That day, as I held the dandelions in my hand, I thought of the best gift that was ever given. Almighty God, creator of the universe, gave us His only Son, Jesus Christ. It was the best gift He could offer, a gift of love from His heart.

Romans 6:23b – The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the best gift we could ever receive, Your only Son, Jesus, a gift of love from Your heart. Amen.
