Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (RSV)
It comes with the territory, and it is much more explicit than snail mail grocery advertising. Simply because I use the Internet, I get Internet junk mail. I can go into my tool bar and select "Blocked Sender List" to stop most of it, but the senders are determined to break through my wall of purity. They repeatedly change their addresses or misspell words so that my system can't catch them.
We all have the same problem. The question is: what will we do with the ones that get through? We can forget about viruses destroying our system. These obscene messages are far more dangerous to our minds than they are to our computers. Will we peek? Or will we delete?
God gives us a clear plan. We are to set our minds to think on the true, the honourable, the just, the pure, the lovely, the gracious, the excellent, and anything worthy of praise. We won't be very far through the list before we will realize that the "Delete" button is the only answer for the obscene junk mail that flies into our home every day.
Prayer: Father God, we want clean minds. No one can give us this gift but You. Please, God, will You touch those who are deceived by the creating or reading of such junk? Give them thoughts higher than themselves and a purpose bigger than that of destruction. We want to have clean minds, Lord. Give us the grace to delete anything that makes us less than godly, in Jesus' name. Amen.
