The God Of The Impossible

Saturday, May 17, 1997

Matthew 19:23 – Jesus looked straight at them and answered, "This is impossible for man, but for God everything is possible."

Many thought it was impossible. A committed and dedicated little group believed that with God nothing is impossible. So they prayed and listened. They listened and they prayed.

Months went by. Ideas emerged. At last a clear word came from the Lord. As a result Mackay Church in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, a congregation of about a hundred members, sponsored a city-wide mission celebrating the Centennial of the formation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in May 1975. Catherine Marshall, a world-famous author, her husband Leonard LeSourd, a one-time editor of Guideposts Magazine, along with two very gifted friends, led the mission.

It was a remarkable success, supported by other churches, Protestant and Catholic alike. Catherine Marshall herself was utterly amazed that such a small congregation could accomplish so much. Quietly we all knew the answer. "There is nothing that God cannot do." He is a specialist in the impossible.

Prayer: Almighty God, your Son Jesus has assured us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for us. We pray for that kind of faith. May we expect great things from you, O God, and may we attempt great things for you, as your Spirit leads. In the name of that same Jesus we pray. Amen.
