All In Free

John 14:27-29 – Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, "I am going away and coming back to you." If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, "I am going to the Father," for My Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. (NKJV)

All young children like to play the game of "peek-a-boo". Then as they get older, they graduate to games of "hide and seek". In the latter game, we used to hide our eyes, usually against a large oak or maple tree, count to one hundred, while our friends hid. Then, when we had finished counting, we'd shout, "Ready or not, here I come!" As we searched, one by one, our friends would slip from hiding, race to the tree, hoping to get there before they were tagged. If they tagged the tree before the person who was it could tag them, then they were "safe". Upon tagging the tree, they would shout, "Allie, allie, all in free."

Both of these games teach vital things. In the first game, the children learn that just because they can't see mommy, it doesn't mean she's not there. The second game teaches children to hide so well that they can't be discovered — which, if you live in a dangerous part of the world, is vital for survival.

For Christians, they offer paradigms for faith. Just because we can no longer see Christ with our eyes, doesn't mean that Christ is not here. Just because we have searched and haven't found Christ, doesn't mean that Christ isn't here. Just because Christ appears to be hidden, doesn't mean that He will always remain so, or that He will not suddenly appear. Likewise, just because Christ appears to be hidden, doesn't mean that He will never step from eternity back into time. Finally, when we are among those who have been redeemed by Christ, we are "Allie, allie, all in free."

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing Yourself to us. Enable us to trust that You are here, even when we do not perceive Your presence. Thank You that You have opened the way to the Father for us. Amen.
