Down In My Heart To Stay

Saturday, October 2, 2004

Luke 6:45 – The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. (NIV)

In talking back and forth with reference to writing a devotional, the subject came up, "What makes it sparkle? What catches our attention?" The conclusion that we two contributors came to was that the message is best when it comes right from the heart.

That led my thoughts back to a camp that I attended in my youth and the songs that we learned, which for some reason I never forget. One of my favourites was When Jesus came into my heart.

This of course answered the question about writing a devotional message that has a sparkle. Not only does it come from the heart, but it shows what is in the heart!

One might conclude that we each need to be careful of what we say, in case our heart is not in the right place. This would leave a question and a deep thought, "What is the state of our heart today?"

Prayer: Almighty and everlasting Father, come into our hearts today. Fill us with the sparkle of joy that comes only from You, and let it shine through us that others may know that Jesus is down in our heart to stay. Amen.
