Off-Key

Philippians 3:17-18 – Stick with me friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. (MSG)

It would have been funny if it weren't so annoying! We could see the mouths of the choir moving, but we could barely hear a word. A member of the audience sitting near us loudly drowned out the whole musical production with his slightly off-key voice. In desperation, most of us sat with one ear covered, trying to close out the not-so-good in order to hear the very best.

That's how it is in our Christian walk. Many voices will be calling for our attention. Some may even seem to wash over God's personal call to us. We will be able to recognize the voice of the Lord only when we make an effort to tune out all the worldly babble around us. When we turn our ear in His direction and listen carefully, He will sing to us above the tumult.

What voice will catch our attention today?

Prayer: Father God, help us to hear You in spite of the inharmonious music around us. Forgive us for those times when we have started to sing the wrong songs. Thanks for getting us started on the right refrain once more. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
