Flip Of A Switch

Matthew 5:14,16 – You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (NIV)

I had been working on a project for several hours and was so engrossed in what I was doing that I failed to notice the darkness creeping in around me. I had almost convinced myself to quit for the day, when I realized that a quick flip of the light switch would fill the room with light, and it did. It dispelled the darkness, giving me light to finish my project.

Jesus told us, "You are the light of the world." How often do we fail to remember to flip the switch of the power source to allow Jesus into our lives? To be filled with the light of Jesus requires that we be connected to Him. Too often, we blunder through life lamenting the darkness, when just lifting a finger to a nearby light switch or sending up a quick prayer will connect us to our source of power.

Not only do we need to turn on the light to dispel our darkness, we need to be filled with the light so that others can see His light in us. If others see this light in us, they can light their candle from our flame and multiply our light in the world.

Prayer: Lord, remind us to open up the switch or connector to You and let Your light shine through into our lives. Then may the light that is in us shine to show the way to others who need Your illumination. Amen.
