Luke 14:16-20 – Jesus followed up. "Yes. For there was once a man who threw a great dinner party and invited many. When it was time for dinner, he sent out his servant to the invited guests, saying, 'Come on in; the food's on the table.' Then they all began to beg off, one after another making excuses. The first said, 'I bought a piece of property and need to look it over. Send my regrets.' Another said, 'I just bought five teams of oxen and I really need to check them out. Send my regrets.' Yet another said, 'I just got married and need to get home to my wife.'" (MSG)

"I'll just turn off the stove; be right over." No matter how late the invitation to dinner, our neighbour Ray always gave us the same answer. One week he turned off the same pot of carrots two nights in a row!

That's the kind of response God is looking for when He calls us to dine with Him. At first glance, the banquet's timing and the food offered may not always be to our liking, but God is offering us a life beyond our wildest dreams.

Are we willing to give up carrots and try caviar?

Prayer: Lord, when You call us to come to You and leave our routinely safe lives, give us the courage to turn off the stove. In Jesus' name. Amen.
