I'd Rather Be Sailing

John 14:27 – [Jesus said:] "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."

There goes one now – a tourist.

All year they waited for this moment to simply relax and get away from it all.

Oops, there goes another one.

Holidays are a time to get away from the busyness and hecticness that is part of modern life.

Hey, that one nearly hit me with his trailer – they forget they have double the length when they haul those things.

We need time to reflect on the really important things of life, to refocus what is the purpose of life and what is crucial to get the most out of life.

Watch it! That one is obviously on the way to the ferry (yes, we still have a ferry!) and is trying to beat the deadline.

Strange isn't it. All this rushing and tearing on the highway, cars passing me on every side while I keep to the speed limit, and everyone of those drivers with that intent look that says, "I've got to get there." And where are they going? They're on holiday and trying to relax. They look more like the front row of the Indy 500.

Take time and take care this summer. "Be still and know that I am God…'

Oh no! Look what's ahead – a caravan of Winnebagos, dozens of them. Well, Lord, it's time to practice what I was just preaching.

Prayer: Slow me down, Lord. It looks like I have some time to simply live life in the slow lane for awhile. Teach me to let go and let you touch and transform my life this summer. Amen.

P.S. I'd rather be sailing!
