Self-Worth

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV)

In one computer game I play, the computer talks to me. The voice is actually quite irritating. The messages it gives me, though, are encouraging. It tells me, "Awesome", "Good move", "Level completed". I feel good about myself every time I hear the compliments. It boosts my confidence level. Of course, I am being encouraged to go to the next level. This is all good and fine in the computer world, but I mustn't depend on that for my sense of self-worth.

Often in life, our self-worth comes from pleasing others, or driving ourselves to reach the top of the ladder, or having the fanciest home, or biggest motor home, or fastest car, or neatest home, or biggest boat, or best-dressed and behaved children. The list could go on and on.

God gives us our self-worth. He says we are new people, we are adopted children, and we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. We have a mansion waiting for us. What more could we want or need? All the other things pale in comparison to these truths.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please show us where we find our self-worth, whether it is in You or not. May we be willing to let go of the temporal things and latch onto the eternal truth of who we are. Thank You. Amen.
