Psalm 139:23-24 – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test my thoughts. Point out anything you find in me that makes you sad. (TLB)
Recently, a little girl was visiting for the day. She wanted to learn how to knit. So I got out the wool and needles, and we started. She said, "Show me. Show me what to do next. Show me where to put the needle. Show me where to put the wool. Show me what to do with the needle. Show me how to hold the wool. Just show me." I was glad to show her what to do with the needle, the wool, her hands, her fingers. She sat on my lap, so we had a good bonding time as well. It was good for our relationship.
God also wants to show us things. In today's Scripture, the psalmist asks God to point out anything found in the psalmist that makes God sad. Do we really want God to show us what makes Him sad? Do we really want to see what makes Him sad? Do we want to change after we see it?
It takes the brave-hearted to ask God to show us what makes Him sad. He is so willing and glad to answer our prayers when we ask Him to show us. It amazes me how quickly the answers come when we are honest with God. Oh, how our relationship with Jesus grows when we ask Him to show us. He wants to speak to us, but often we are too busy or too tired to listen. He wants that relationship with us more than we want it.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, show us. Point out to us what makes You sad. Lord, show us how to forgive. Lord, show us how to pray. Lord, show us how to build relationships. Lord, show us how to treat others with grace. Jesus, show us how to make amends. Show us what step to take next. Please speak to us. Oh how we need You today! Amen.
