Follower Of Jesus

Monday, February 27, 2006

I went with my son recently to get his Ontario hospital card renewed. After taking a number and patiently awaiting our turn, it was our time to go forward. The lady at the desk began to gather our information, which would verify who he was. She was not happy that my son, who is only fifteen, did not have any personal information that contained his address and his signature. After placing many pieces of identification on the desk for her, she was then satisfied that my son was who he said he was. She then issued him a new health card.

As we were leaving the office, I said to my son that I was glad that with Jesus our identification is clear and we don't have to show documentation to prove who we are. He knows without a doubt who we are!

This got me thinking about how we show the world that we are followers of Jesus. Does the fish on the back of our car show that we are followers of Jesus? Each Sunday we are found sitting in church. Does this show we are followers of Jesus?

The following verse in Isaiah gives us some very clear direction. It speaks volumes to the body of Christ.

Isaiah 8:16 – Gather up the testimony, preserve the teaching for my followers. (MSG)

The next time we find ourselves engaging someone about the weather, let's try to get in a word for Jesus. He has more impact on our lives than the weather will ever have.

Proverbs 14:28 – The mark of a good leader is loyal followers; leadership is nothing without a following. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we are very sorry for all the times that we have not been a witness to the world on Your behalf. We praise and thank You for Your love and mercy towards us. We thank You for each new day and for new opportunities to show the world that You are the way to eternity with God. Amen.
