Children Of The King

Philippians 4:19 – And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

A newspaper clipping tells the ironic story of Antonio Lopez, an immigrant worker in the United States. He was known to his neighbours as a steady hard worker, but very poor, and rather eccentric. When people would go over to visit him, he would come out of his house to meet them, and they would stand in the yard talking. When old Antonio finally died, and his house was searched, they found piles of cash in every conceivable hiding place, in the walls, under the floors, in the mattress. There were old money orders, and stocks and bonds with the coupons still attached. Thousands of dollars of uncashed cheques simply had to be burned. What a waste, a man living in poverty, literally amongst untold riches.

How tragic it is when we as Christians neglect to lay hold of our rightful riches in Christ Jesus. Anyone who has the Spirit of Jesus and lives in obedience to God is a child of the King of the Universe! No child whose father is a billionaire ever goes without, and God has promised to supply His children with everything we need to serve Him. That sounds like the farthest thing from living on a fixed income! In the promises God has given us in His Word, great riches are at our disposal. We just have to claim them.

Prayer: Help us, O Lord, to distinguish between our needs and our wants, as we wait in total dependence upon You. Amen.
