Eating The Right Food

Listen to this devotional:

1 Peter 2:2 – As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. (KJV)

Years ago, we had a little bush right outside our living room window. We were delighted one spring to discover a little nest in the bush. Before long, there were a few little eggs in it. We watched daily, with great anticipation, for the little birds to hatch! The day finally arrived. They were so tiny and so dependent on their parents. Almost constantly, the adult birds were bringing food for them. They knew the right food and where to find it. Did they ever grow quickly! Before long, they had flown away and were able to find their own food.

Oh, how we need to be fed as Christians. As baby Christians, we are hungry for the Word. At times, though, we just can't find the right food. Sometimes, we choke on the food. What do we do? Where do we start? The Bible is a big book with a lot of strange names in it. We need an adult to show us what the best food is for us and where to find it in the Bible. Then, as we grow, we can scout around in God's Word ourselves and find more food for our souls.

Let's always be aware that our souls need to be fed. God's Word is that necessary food. He says, "Learn of me." (Matthew 11:29 KJV)

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Word whereby we can be fed and satisfied, and we can grow. Help us to spend time learning of You. Amen.
