Being Poor

Listen to this devotional:

Deuteronomy 15:10 – Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (NIV)

Many relatives don't see each other for years on end. My maternal grandparents lived in the province of Manitoba, Canada, while we were two provinces away in Alberta. We did write letters on occasion, but I never really knew them. Our mother was gone when we were quite young, and we didn't stay close to her family.

We often wondered what they were like. Did we resemble them? Or share traits?

One day, a member of my church family said that she was going to visit family in the town where Mom grew up. I asked her if she knew of my relatives. She did and was glad to tell me about them.

I learned of their philosophy, which made me proud. Although they had very little, Grandma always said, "You're never poor if you have something to give away."

As believers, we have something precious to give: knowledge of God's perfect gift.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give us courage to speak of Your love to those who need to hear. Bless our tongues with the right words to tell of this gift. In Jesus' name, we ask. Amen.
